beside all the xmas dinners & parties i worked on new board and gave it a little colored touch. ready for sanding & gloss coat.

After bottom and top coat process has been finished the board looks almost ready for salty water. on the weekend i will work on the fin plug installation, final sanding & polishing.

i finished the lamination process of my first board. the bottom lamination was not a big issue. but i screwed up with the top. it ended with many air bubbles and massive rework. anyway, i was told by someone that the bottom is much more important and the top will be covered with wax anyway :-) the board is now presanded and ready for hotcoating and final sanding. to be continued.

in the meantime i prepared the fibreglass for the second board (5'8'' x 22'' x 3''). lets hope the expierence out of the first lamination will create a better result.

fcs fusion II

this evening i installed the fusion fin plugs for the 'pocket rocket'. i'm quite happy with the result except the center fin. i don't know why but the router didn't do a good job there and slightly destroyed a part of the stinger.

now, everything is prepared for the first glass job. this is probably the most complex and difficult process when you build a board. let's keep the fingers crossed that this step will end successfully.

finally! after weeks of waiting the fusion fin template & router arrived safely in my shaperoom. the work can be continued this weekend.

single fin

i ordered a beautiful dolphin fin in the USA last week. thanks to the quick fedex service it already arrived today in switzerland.


this fin will be the inspiration for a retro single fin board (6'2'' x 21 1/8''). the template is already available. but i realised that i would need to have a bigger blank (6'5'' xtrafoam will be sufficent). the teccel blanks are slightly too short.

while waiting for the fusion template and router (will arrive only next week...) i finished the egg board yesterday evening. it came out a little wider than planned. it has a high entry rocker and flat bottom. this will be a funny board for summer beach breaks.

enjoyed the start of my vacation by creating a new template (egg 5'10'' x 21 3/4'') and already started to shape this new board. i also experimented with paints. not sure whether i will paint the first boards. most probably i'll focus on glassing only. this will be challenge enough :)

i'm still waiting for the delivery of my router & template for the fcs fusion plugs. in the meantime anthony visited switzerland (as well as the shaping room) and we had a great time with family & friends. only surf gipsy jesus was missing :-)

another blank transformed into a surfboard. the idea behind this board is rather simple. it should work in the river and is also suitable for smaller/mushy beachbreaks. a flat rocker and 2'5/8'' thickness makes it easy to catch waves. i decided against a fish tail since it is much more susceptible for dings (especially for travels by plane!!).

bremgarten 2011

friday, 14 october: left work at 2pm, arrived in bremgarten, 250 m3/min, sunshine, no crowds... this was a magic surf session with toby! thanks dude!

the "ANT" grows out of its blank. i finished the raw shape last night. only a few shades needs to get polished away. the dimensions match my plans (5'8'' x 22'' x 3''). to be continued!

the snow which arrived this weekend was melting. not too interesting news unless:

a) you are a surfer &

b) you checked the hydrological data of the river 'reuss'.

more than 300m3/s were shaping a nice after-work wave. the surf was on! probably the last time for this year. 12 degrees water temp made it a cool session!

today i created a few templates:

- 5'6'' x 20 1/2, fish (POCKET ROCKET)

- 5'8'' x 22, fish (NAIL CLIPPER)

- 5'8'' x 22, rounded square (ANT)

- 6'2'' x 21 1/2, rounded (RUSH HOUR)

blank delivery is scheduled for next week, everything's prepared!

shaperoom is ready!

a few days ago i finished the works in my shape room. yesterday i received the delivery of all necessities for the glassing process. the blanks should arrive also within the next 2 weeks.
