another one finished

i recently finished this beauty:

dimensions:
6'1'' x 20 1/2'' x 2 3/4''

lamination:
1x 6oz bottom, 2x 6oz top lamination (cutlap)

resin:
epoxy (sicomin)

sanding:
up to 400grid by machine & 600grid (wet-)sanding by hand

polish:
machine polish with 'rhino polish'

fins:
fcs system, thruster setup

by far the best sanding results i ever achieved but still a long way to go to compete with a board from a surfshop. however, very happy with the progress as well as the resin tint tail.

will be for sale as of now! in case you haven't got your xmas present :-)

new board in progress

some progress to be reported out of the shaping bay. the outline of my new 6'2 retro board was already finished last week. tonight i was working on the bottom, top and rail shape. towards the nose i worked in a concave shape while i kept the middle flat to allow the board to paddle easily.

happy client = happy shaper

always a pleasure to receive positive feedback from clients. toni sent me these pictures from spain and seems to be stoked :) thanks for sharing and keep on riding!

supplies arrived

it felt ike xmas yesterday! while i was at work the truck with new supplies from france arrived and restocked the shaping bay.

xtra foam blanks (6'5'' & 6'11'')

new sanding pad, rhino grip sanding paper & polish

fcs fins, plugs & single fin boxes

what's next? I am torn between a 6' roundtail retro surfbaord or a slighly smaller but wider nugget shape. I also want to work again with a resin tint finish to bring some color into the boards. i'll keep you posted about my choice and progress.

the beauty of côte des basques

we spent two great weeks at our second home base in hendaye. although not everyone was able to make the trip down to france we still had a few reunions incl. surf & great food. epic!

the waves were unfortunately not at its world class level. we only gathered four days with swell during the beginning and end of the two weeks. however, this lead to some excursions (e.g. bike trip on top of la rhune) and unveiled the hidden and beautiful corners of the basque coast. please find below a few impressions:

during the next weeks i'll order new blanks and start with projects to survive the long & dark winter evenings. the flat spell time we spent in surf shops was definitely a good inspiration :-)

lia's stick

the family quiver grew tonight!

just before the departure to our autumn surf trip in heydaye i finished my daughters first surfboard. although her surf skills might not allow to "surf" the board properly it will be a fun toy for the beach. it has two leash plugs. one in the nose area to attach a boogie board leash (to pull the kids in the shallow water) and one in the tail area (to allow the adults to boardboard/surf it). furthermore i installed two fcs fins.

summer break

i've been a bit lazy when it comes to shaping boards. but as we'll soon depart to our annual hendaye reunion with surf gypsy crew i started to build a board for my younger daughter. it'll be again a a finless (safety reason) board, similar to a bodyboard. but i'd never call it one :-) stay tuned for some pictures which will soon be posted on the blog. in the meantime i'd like to share a nice video from the crazy swell hit indonesia recently. enjoy!

what a week!

we had warm weather, light winds and the ocean sent us two swells during these days in baleal. furthermore we were treated with great food, wine and have been taken out for a party with our dear old friend bruno. epic and to be continued in 2016!

sgc trip 2015

there's not much going on in the shaping bay since we are working on a new wooden terrace and this requires all my attention and time. however, on saturday we'll meet again for the annual sgc reunion in baleal. can't wait, boards are packed and i am very hungry to get some waves…

more photos will follow at a later stage. stay tuned.

blue stripe - back to life

i started to work on this board almost 2 years back when toby visited me. we both spent a few hours together in the bay and shaped the outline. i don't know why, but the board never made to the finishing process until this weekend when i did the gloss coat.

it will be for sale in a couple of weeks and is suited for beginners who want to change from a mini-malibu to a smaller board. its wide outline and plenty of volume will give you enough stability to catch even small summer waves.

egg shape, 5'11'' x 22 1/4'' x 2 15/16'', fcs fusion thruster setup
